The story of the Thailand Christian Network Foundation
2005
In 2005, IMI Church in Stavanger, Norway, became involved in the work of the Norwegian Mission Society (NMS), particularly in relation to church development within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thailand (ELCT) in Northeast Thailand. A key factor in this engagement was the decision by IMI Church to send two missionary families with strong ties to its leadership.
Between 2007 and 2012, a close and fruitful collaboration developed between IMI Church, ELCT, and NMS, centered around the Lutheran church center in Mukdahan. One of the significant outcomes of this partnership was the testing and establishment of the programs Agenda 1 and Impuls outside of Norway. These programs, which later became two of TCN’s most important tools for church development and strengthening, had previously only been available in Norway. During this period, the foundation was laid for what have since grown into influential initiatives.
2007 - 2012
2013
In 2013, IMI Church entered into important discussions with NMS, resulting in a redefinition of their collaboration. NMS continued its dedicated work within the Lutheran Church, while IMI Church shifted its focus toward applying the lessons learned over the previous five years within a broader, interdenominational context. Building on established relationships with Thai church leaders from various denominational backgrounds, the collaboration continued through the organic network represented by Agenda 1.
2014
As part of IMI Church’s efforts to establish a new ecumenical platform for leadership development, the Thailand Christian Network Foundation (TCN) was formally established in February 2014.
2024
As of 2024, IMI Church’s missionary work in Thailand was incorporated into Normisjon, a Norwegian mission organization closely affiliated with IMI Church. Today, most missionaries serving within TCN are sent through Normisjon.
The foundation was locally rooted in Mukdahan, Thailand. Until 2025, the chairmanship of the foundation remained connected to IMI Church’s missionaries, after which leadership was transitioned to Thai leadership.
The collaboration between IMI Church and TCN remains strong, characterized by close relationships, shared values, aligned strategies, and financial partnership.
